Typical Class Format
Times are approximate, but a typical 1 hr 45 minute class will include the following:

*(10 mins) The class will begin with an exchange of greetings with a traditional Thai "wai", (see Thai lady on the home page). This is followed by a short warm up period which will vary from one session to the next, but will include something from the following: jogging, skipping, tyre bouncing, joint mobility (rotation) exercises, light stretching exercises and conditioning exercises such as press-ups, crunches, burpees, lunges etc.

*(5 mins) Shadow boxing. This is the transitional section from warm up to Thai Boxing training.

*(15 mins) Learning new and revising previously learned attack and defence techniques using all the natural weapons of the body. This is the technical section and will include techniques from both modern and old style Thai Boxing.

*Quick water break

*(20 mins) Practicing techniques with partners under controlled situations to develop attack and defence skills and strategies. This section is where the skills, ideas and concepts learnt in the technical section can be practiced with a partner.

*(20 mins) Practicing techniques and combinations of techniques on bags and pads to develop timing, distance, speed, power and reactions. This is the cardio section.

*Quick water break

*(15 mins) Light sparring and clinch sparring. This section is what all the other training is leading towards. Sparring is optional in class but is a requirement to advance through the grades.

*(5 mins) The class always ends with a cool down period which can include the wai kru/ram muay, developmental stretches to improve general flexibility or meditation.

***(+15 mins) The last 15 minutes is optional and are for any additional training requirements or questions.

The standard school training uniform is Muay Thai shorts (£16), T-shirt, hand wraps (£5) and ankle supports (£5). After a few weeks training it would be beneficial to get your own bag gloves (£18), shin guards (£12), groin guard (£6) and gum shield (£2). All of this equipment is available to buy from the instructor. Until then it's fine to just wear loose and comfortable clothing such as shorts, track suit, karate or kickboxing trousers and a T-shirt and borrow the gym's own equipment.

At the moment Sundays are the only times that are available at the Heald Green location. I do plan to make more training available at other locations in the future. If anybody knows of any suitable locations, please let me know. Private training sessions are available at Heald Green on Sundays.
